Who is Mike?

“I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world”
-Walt Whitman, Song of Myself, 52

I have finally decided, after experiencing almost a half century of life, to share with you my past/present adventures and the tidbits of knowledge I’ve gained along the way.

When I was a child, my parents did a great job of providing me with every opportunity they possibly could. Some of those opportunities I squandered (Mom and Dad, sorry about leaving college early… I know it bothered you but you were always supportive).

We didn’t go on many vacations, but the trips we did take were top-of-the-line blowouts. On the other hand, my wife grew up traveling every year on a budget.

When it comes to travelling, I have learned that rewarding experiences have nothing to do with quality versus quantity. A camping trip to a state park, a day trip to a zoo, or even a picnic in a park can be just as fulfilling as a full blown Disney vacation. It’s all about cherishing quality time with loved ones and making memories.

My wife attended a culinary school, and I decided to follow that path as well. So, most of our adult years were spent grinding our way through long nights, weekends, and holidays. We’re both out of the hospitality industry now, but we still love great food! In fact, just about every trip we take seems to revolve around it in some way or another..

We’re constantly searching for the “perfect day.” We’ve had our fair share, but like an addict we can never seen to wait for the next fix. The funny part is, sometimes the stars align, but often times they don’t. Either way, it always seems to be an adventure.

Our kids are grown and are learning to fly on their own.  As parents, we’ve begun to venture farther and farther from our nest each day to see more of what the world has to offer.

Feel free to pull up a chair, there’s plenty of food to go around. If you listen closely, you might even hear a Barbaric Yawp!
